Description
Handy Yarn Gauge, WPI measuring and translation reference card.
Easy to use reference tool for knitting, crochet and spinning.
Have you ever lost the label from a ball of yarn and wondered what gauge it was?
Been confused by the US and metric knitting needle size systems?
What crochet hook or knitting needle to use for a certain thickness of yarn?
Been unsure how many stitches per inch your yarn should work up to?
Hand spun some yarn and wondered what thickness it is?
I create and work with yarn all day and when making, using or selling my yarns would have to use several different references to get the information I needed.
I decided to put all the information I needed into one card to save myself time.
With this card, you can simply measure the wraps per inch (WPI) and twist angle of your yarn.
Then just flip the card over for a chart that translates the WPI into:
The Standard yarn weight numbering system.
Common names of the yarn types.
Recommended stitches per inch.
Suggested knitting needles in metric and US sizing.
Suggested crochet hook in metric, US and UK sizing.
I keep one by my spinning wheel and another in my project bag.
Printed on A6 size (One quarter of an A4 sheet )
235 gsm card stock with 150 gsm laminate
That is about as thick as a credit card.
How to use the handy Yarn Gauge and WPI translation card:
Loosely hold a strand of yarn vertically over the front of the card.
Slide the yarn horizontally across the WPI gauge until it just fits between two of the measurement lines.
Repeat with three or four strands of the same yarn and you will get the average WPI of your yarn.
Flip the card over to consult the translation chart.
So easy.
